Happy Friday,

The recent drop in oil prices has certainly brought cheers to all motorists and consumer stocks. Consumer shares have risen almost four times as fast as the Standard & Poor's 500 Index in August, sending the S&P 500 Consumer Discretionary Index toward its biggest monthly advance since an 8.9 percent increase in October 2003. A 22 percent drop in oil since its July peak and speculation that the Federal Reserve will hold off on raising interest rates improved prospects that Americans will spend more. But most analysts are more reticent. They argue, thanks to enduringly strong demand from emerging markets such as China, that as long as economic growth holds up in the developing world, the price of commodities should too.

We can see that rates have remained steady this week in spite of a rise in the Treasury yields, with the market showing little activity today due to the long weekend at hand. The 30 year T-Bill is currently at 4.41 but luckily, rates are remaining steady when comparing them to last Friday’s rates.

Please look at our 5/1 fixed rate for jumbo mortgages. It is very low and is it not a misprint. The loan to values are a little more restrictive on this particular program, but we have not seen 5 year jumbo rates this low in some time.
